BHC Alumni Schools

Hear what our BHC alumni are up to…

“Our students continue to benefit from the BHC program we started last year. We have continued to use the health lessons and have expanded on them. We use the equipment from BHC daily. This equipment allows students to participate in lessons they may otherwise be unable and use equipment much safer than they previously had.”

—PE Teacher, Thompson International Academy

“Currently, students and staff are participating in a walking club inside of the building as we are no longer able to go outside for recess. The walking club has helped students to burn off energy that would normally be pinned up because of the weather. The club has also helped to cut down the amount of behavioral incidences that take place after lunch.”

—Principal, Gardner Elementary School

“We have recently partnered with the City of Portage and All Kids Bike to bring “Stryder” bikes to our school. Our kindergarten students will increase balance by learning to ride a bicycle during their weekly PE class. We are excited to bring this opportunity to our students and provide them with a lifelong passion for riding bicycles.”

—Principal, Haverhill Elementary School

The Building Healthy Communities Model

In the last few years, our programming has evolved to include eight components, and we’ve added important resources to support all dimensions of student wellness. We’ve expanded the program offerings to include trauma-sensitive schooling and family resources, updated our nutrition lessons, and added additional physical activity and physical education materials to ensure that children have many opportunities to make healthy choices throughout the school day. We’ve also included all these resources on the Building Healthy Communities website to ensure that schools and teachers have convenient access to our resources at any time.
